Unique Private Tour of the Bay of Islands 6 Hour "GREAT GALLOP"
- Duration: 6 Hours (approx.)
- Location: Paihia, Northland
The "Great Gallop" visits the Puketi sub-tropical forest allowing you to experience the massive kauri trees. Explore the Whangaroa harbour and Kerikeri Basin while being driven through our fabulous countryside, farmland and historic settlements surrounding the Bay of Islands in Northland, New Zealand. The price includes up to four passengers in your group and if both of our guides are available, we can cater for groups of up to eight. Simply book two "Great Gallop" tours and you can swap between Jeeps if you want.
On your tour we leave Paihia for the historic Te Waimate Mission, the location of the second signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. Next we pass volcanic landscapes and sites of ancient Maori pa, fortified villages, and engage 4WD to travel up unsealed roads through working farmland. We then reach the Puketi Forest for a 15-minute stroll along an easy boardwalk through a grove of huge kauri trees. We then continue on to the historic town of Kaeo for a well deserved stop at a quirky cafe where you can purchase lunch.
Continuing up to the scenic Whangaroa harbour and travelling along the exposed east coast and sandy beaches gets you some amazing photo opportunities before we head to Rainbow Falls and Kerikeri. Kororipo, the location of an early trading post, the oldest building in New Zealand and the famous Stone Store, a fitting last stop before finishing the "Great Gallop" back in Paihia.
We really love being able to personalise our tours for our clients and can change the details on the day to suit the weather, people’s energy levels and specific interests.
