Unique Private Tour of the Bay of Islands 4 Hour "KAURI CAPER"
- Duration: 4 Hours (approx.)
- Location: Paihia, Northland
The "Kauri Caper" visits two of Northland's sub-tropical rain-forests allowing you to experience the massive kauri trees. Explore the Bay's surrounds while being driven through our fabulous countryside, farmland and historic settlements. The price includes up to four passengers in your group and if both of our guides are available, we can cater for groups of up to eight. Simply book two "Kauri Caper" tours and you can swap between Jeeps if you want.
On your tour we leave Paihia and stop in the seaside port of Opua before engaging the Jeep's 4WD and traversing unsealed roads to get to the Opua Forest for a 20-minute walk. Here you can see some of the magnificent kauri trees and native bush along a well-formed trail. Then we head through rural farmland, stopping at Henry Williams' beautiful church in Pakaraka. Next we pass volcanic landscapes and sites of ancient pa, Maori fortified villages, on our way to the Puketi Forest for another 15-minute walk along an easy boardwalk through another grove of huge kauri trees. Next we will travel to the historic town of Kaeo for a well deserved stop at a quirky cafe where you can purchase lunch. After lunch we will visit Rainbow Falls and the horseshoe shaped Haruru Falls. We top off the tour with a photo stop of the Bay from the Waitangi lookout before finishing the "Kauri Caper" back in Paihia.
We really love being able to personalise our tours for our clients and can change the details on the day to suit the weather, people’s energy levels and specific interests.
